![]() I'll have to measure up and follow your guide. The beam that I intend to use for narrowing/lowering is from a late bay, but unsure which year. Need to know what year your bus is and if it is a 69, you are going to have to measure the width of the beam you have under there and determine if it has spacers or not under the mounting plates. Posted: Sat 8:35 am Post subject: Re: Early vs late bay beam tube distance If I want to mount the late beam to early bay, I'd need to fabricate a new mounting plate with the appropriate bolt patterns as per the CAD diagram. So the tube distances are the same for 68-79. Posted: Fri 9:10 pm Post subject: Re: Early vs late bay beam tube distance The trailing arms are different -63 vs 64-67, so beam bushings and/or bearings are not interchangeable, but the width and bolt patern are the same 3/55 through 67. Posted: Fri 10:12 am Post subject: Re: Early vs late bay beam tube distance Posted: Fri 9:58 am Post subject: Re: Early vs late bay beam tube distanceĪctually what I meant was the distance between the 2 torsion leaf tubes, not the track width. ![]() There is something about the 63 and earlier beams that is different, I do not know what that is, whether width, bolt pattern or both. Drawback being the ball joint front will cause the split to have a higher ride height. The late beams do not come with six holes, at least I have never seen one.ħ0-79 the mounting bolt pattern is the same, the 70 does not have the servo bracket.Ħ8-69 beams will bolt to 64-67 splits, upgrade the split to ball joint or down grade your bay to king pin. Not exactly, they do not directly interchange due to the mounting bolt pattern. Posted: Fri 3:56 am Post subject: Re: Early vs late bay beam tube distance ![]() You are out of luck if the replacement beam is too short.Īs per this image, but this is from someone who wants to make the bolt mounting plate. Keep in mind that all beam widths are not created equal, VW had special shims made to fit beams that were wider (good luck finding them). VW changed the production line in August each year so if the bus was manufactured after August it could fit. It depends when the 69' was manufactured. I have a replacement 69' beam and it has the same bolt pattern as my 70' beam but the 69' beam is actually wider than my 70' beam.
